Jay Owens studied social anthropology at LSE before doing a masters in Modernity, Space and Place at UCL. In 2016, she launched Disturbances, a newsletter looking at the world through the lens of dust. Posts from Disturbances were picked up and republished by Wired and Medium among others, and Jay has appeared on BBC Radio, NPR and various other media outlets. She is the research director of social media analyst coompany Pulsar Platform.

She is working on her first book, Planet of Dust, an exploration of modernity through the lens of dust.
