RICHARD DEVESON was born in London and grew up in Bedford. After working as an editor of arts courses at the Open University he became a freelance translator from German. His translations include many books and articles on music and on modern German history. He has also been a regular reviewer of fiction for the New Statesman and the Times Literary Supplement. In 2017 he produced an edition of the letters that his mother, an Austrian refugee, wrote from London to her family in America during the Second World War. He is writing a memoir of his early years and his mother’s life as a refugee to Britain during World War Two.  He is married, with two grown-up sons.
